ITNET-131 Networking Fundamentals (Cisco 1) 3 credits This is the first of four classes designed to provide students with classroom and laboratory experience in current and emerging networking technology that will empower them to enter employment and/or further education and training in the computer networking field. Instruction includes networking, networking terminology and protocols, network standards, LANS, WANS, OSI models, cabling, IP addressing, and network standards. Students completing all three courses will be prepared to take the Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) exam as well as the Comp TIA Network+ exam at a Sylvan Prometric testing center. Prerequisites: The ability to navigate a Microsoft Windows operating system. ITNET-132 Router Technologies (Cisco 2) 3 credits This is the second of four of classes designed to provide students with classroom and laboratory experience in current and emerging networking technology that will empower them to enter employment and/or further education and training in the computer networking field. Instruction includes Ethernet, TCP/IP, RIP, IGRP, and the Cisco IOS. Emphasis is placed on router configuration and is accomplished through hands-on labs using Cisco 2600 routers. Prerequisites: ITNET-131 or prior instructor approval ITNET-133 Advanced Routing & Switching (Cisco 3) 3 credits This is the third of four courses designed to provide students with classroom and laboratory experience in current and emerging networking technology that will empower them to enter employment and/or further education and training in the computer networking field. A task analysis was used in the development of the content standards. The focus of this course continues with objectives from the CCNA exam. Subjects covered include LAN design, Access Control Lists, IGRP, Novell IPX, LAN Switching, and VLANs. Prerequisites: ITNET-131 and ITNET -132 or prior instructor approval ITNET-134 WAN Technologies (Cisco 4) 3 credits This is the fourth, and final, in a series of classes designed to provide students with classroom and laboratory experience in current and emerging networking technology that will empower them to enter employment and/or further education and training in the computer networking field. The focus of this course continues with objectives from the CCNA Exam. Subjects covered include WAN design, ISDN, Frame Relay, and PPP. Additional time will be spent preparing for the CCNA exam. Practice exams and study guides will also be available. Prerequisites: ITNET-131, ITNET-132, and ITNET-133, or prior instructor approval.
